Training Statement
My
name is Michele McCormick and I am a certified yoga
instructor through Yoga Alliance (RYT-200). I have been
practicing yoga regularly since 2000 and was certified to
teach yoga in 2007. Many people think that yoga is just
stretching. But yoga is really about creating balance in the
body through developing both strength and flexibility. This
is done through the performance of poses. The poses can be
done quickly in succession, creating heat in the body (vinyasa-style
yoga) or more slowly to increase stamina and perfect the
alignment of the pose. I use both styles in my classes.
Anyone can start a yoga practice, even if you don't feel
like you are very flexible or strong. These things will
develop over time, and you will quickly notice improvements
with consistent practice! Another great thing about yoga is
that it is entirely noncompetitive. One of the most
difficult, but ultimately best things about yoga is letting
go of the ego and accepting that no one is better than
anyone else. Everyone is just doing their best on any given
day.
Benefits of yoga include increasing flexibility
in your hamstrings, back, shoulders, and hips; gaining
strength and muscle tone; preventing back pain; learning to
breathe properly, increasing mental calmness, reducing
stress, and improving posture and body awareness. I hope to
see you in class soon!
